You probably think I am about to list a bunch of products or tips that help you to become more beautiful. Nope, not this time.
Enhancing your beauty is really simple, and although cliché, I am here to say, “beauty starts from within.” You can change your hair, makeup or outfit a million and one times in hopes to look more beautiful, but the change needs to come from within.
Here are 5 ways to become more beautiful…
1. Validate Yourself
Do not look to others to validate you. Look to yourself and only yourself for validation. How do you validate yourself? It’s easy; compliment yourself. Tell yourself that you are beautiful. Even if you don’t believe it right at that moment, keep complimenting yourself. Eventually you will come to believe it. And remember, validation does not come from social media. No amount of followers, likes, friends, retweets or favorites should make you feel any better or worse of a person.
“The woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet.”
2. Stop Criticizing Others
Think twice before saying something not so nice about another person, especially about their appearance. We do not have control over the way we or others look. We were all born a certain way with certain features that we love and certain features we don’t like so much. And we are often our own worst critics. So, really, what is the point of criticizing someone else? When you criticize others, you do not define them, you define yourself.
“The more you point out someone else’s flaws, the more you emphasize your own.”
3. Be Confident
Confidence is beauty. Such a trait comes easy to some and not to others. When it comes to confidence, I believe you can “fake it until you make it.” Such a belief came to me after watching a certain Ted talk by Amy Cuddy, titled Your body language shapes who you are. This video is truly life changing. Basically, it explains that if you practice being confident using certain body language, you will eventually become confident.
“Beauty is self-confidence applied directly to the face.”
4. Be Positive
Dwelling on the negative will only stop us from seeing the positive. Negative thoughts can consume us and they often do. One bad thought leads to a hundred. Eventually such thinking spirals out of control and our mood is ruined. Try to catch yourself when you start to think negatively. Remind yourself of the things you are grateful for. Even though it may be hard, try to look for the positive in all situations.
“The more you see beauty, the more beautiful you become.”
5. Choose Happiness
Do not let society define happiness for you; otherwise you will be a long road with no end in sight. You choose what makes you happy. Try not to get caught up in the past or future, as living solely in the past can cause depression and living solely in the future can cause anxiety. Be present and create your own happiness.
“A girl’s true beauty is the reflection of her inner happiness.”
Changing who you are on the inside will eventually resonate on the outside. Remember, change does not happen overnight as everything takes time. Some days you may feel confident, self-assured and happy. Other days you may feel insecure or depressed. That is okay. Take a pause and remind yourself to keep going. Recognize that you are on a lifelong journey with yourself.
Simply trying to become a better you is beautiful. Remember that.
